Back to the Drawing Board

Fashion sketching is no easy task, believe me.  It all really comes down to the way you render the garment, which is how you communicate fabric type, silhouette, cut of the garment, etc.  Come to think of it, it’s actually pretty insane that all of that is communicated into one small 8 inch drawing.

Even though I’ve been sketching for years, I still tweak my sketching style every now and then.  Honestly, you just have to work through sketching with trial and error.  To this day, I’m still trying to figure out a more accurate way of rendering a black garment.  I’m coming pretty close to it, but that’s after hundreds of tries.  I guess that’s the same with any task, really.  You just have to stick it out until it feels natural and you get the results you want.

I have the world to learn when it comes to fashion sketching, and I’m eager to learn more about it.  Guess it’s back to the drawing board.

Pictured above is my sketching session from this past weekend. I was swimming in Micron pens, Prismacolor pencils, marker paper, and tiramisu!
