I believe that the best way to really get to know a place is through its food. Therefore, on my trip to London, I have been taking in all the local cuisine that I could get! I will admit, it does get a little pricey when constantly eating out — since the US dollar is weaker than the UK pound — but regardless, I plan to consume as much local cuisine as possible.
The day we moved into the flat, we had breakfast at Café Continenté on North End Road in West Kensington. I had their traditional English breakfast which was beans, mushrooms, a grilled tomato, hashbrown, cumberland sausage, eggs and smoked bacon accompanied with toast. Of course I had a English Breakfast tea, too!
Friday after our bus tour, we checked out the café underneath our flats, The Blue Corner on Hammersmith Road, and I had a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with English Breakfast tea. The sandwich was heavenly and there was so much of it, too. Inside the two pieces of pumpernickel bread, there were onions, cream cheese, smoked salmon, cucumbers and some greens. It was the perfect sandwich for a horrible morning. The atmosphere is what makes this café so charming. It gives a rustic, but homey feel and makes you feel comfortable, which is wonderful. I will definitely be spending some time in that café, especially when writing my term papers!
Sunday morning we ventured out into Soho and had a lovely brunch at Jackson + Rye. I had the Avocado Royale, which was basically smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce on top of half of an avocado with watercress, granary toast and country fried potatoes. With one bite I was in heaven. It was honestly the #2 best brunch meal I have had in my entire life. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very warm and the dining experience was wonderful! I would totally go back, especially for those avocados.
Of course, the UK’s Nando’s is one of my favorite places to eat, even in the States. Whenever I venture out to Washington, D.C., Nando’s is a must. Their seasoning is delicious. Ugh, I love Nando’s.
I’ve already indulged in so many great food experiences whilst in London and it’s only been one week! My stomach is ready to taste the amazing cuisine London has to offer.
