My New Year’s Resolution was to cook more, and I’ve been surprisingly good about keeping it! Last week, I decided that I wanted to have tomato sauce but didn’t have any store bought stuff in my pantry, so I decided to make my own. The result? A surprisingly and delicious tomato sauce!
First off, let me list the ingredients that I used for the tomato sauce:
- 6 plum tomatoes
- 3 cloves of garlic, diced
- basil – about 1/4 cup, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- salt & pepper, for taste

All the ingredients you’ll need for a simple, homemade tomato sauce
The first thing I did was wash my tomatoes and brought some water in a pot to boil.

Place tomatoes in boiling water and leave for 7 minutes
I dropped the tomatoes in the boiling water and let them boil for about 7 minutes, until their skin started to peel off.

Once you drain your pot, the skin of your tomatoes should be easy to peel – like these!
While I waited for my tomatoes to boil, I diced and chopped my garlic and basil and had ’em ready and handy for when my tomatoes were done.
After about 7 minutes, I drained the pot and peeled the skin off the tomatoes and diced them. You’re gonna get some juices coming out, but that’s a good thing! Once you finish dicing all the tomatoes, place all of them in a bowl.

It’s messy chopping these boiled tomatoes, but trust me it’s worth it!

Once you’ve chopped up your boiled tomatoes, place them in a bowl
Now, take the same pot where you boiled the tomatoes in, and put some olive oil – not too much, just a little bit. Wait a minute or two until the pot gets warm and put everything in the pot – the diced tomatoes, the garlic, the basil, and the butter.

Combine the ingredients: diced tomatoes, garlic, basil, and butter.
Take a spoon and mix all the ingredients in the pot, and don’t forget to add in some salt and pepper for seasoning. As for the heat, leave it on a low heat. You want the tomatoes to reduce and have a simmering sauce!
After about 10-15 minutes, your sauce should be smelling so delicious and ready to serve. Serve on top of pasta or whatever your heart desires. I added some cooked shrimp to the sauce and served it on top of some angel hair pasta. Yum.

Homemade tomato sauce with shrimp over angel hair pasta? YUM.
And that’s my homemade tomato sauce recipe! Easy, right? Send us some photos of your sauce/food, I’d love to see them! And if you have any tips or any food that you wanna have me try to cook, please let me know!
